Meet the Team

I am a PhD candidate who is co-supervised by Dr. Elizabeth Elle. My work examines the interaction between nutrients from spawning Pacific Salmon, coastal wildflowers, and their pollinators. Specifically, I am interested in how marine-derived nutrients may alter the ecology, traits, and reproduction of coastal plants. My field research takes place in Haíɫzaqv territory on the central coast of BC.

I am a PhD student co-supervised by Dr. John Reynolds at Simon Fraser University and Dr. Bryan Neff at the University of Western Ontario.

My doctoral research is focused on the Chinook salmon invasion of Patagonia, southern South America. My goal is to use this system to test hypotheses concerning species invasions and subsidized food webs while also contributing to our understanding of the ecological change brought about by non-native salmon in these unique ecosystems.

I am a PhD candidate studying cross-boundary subsidies – specifically, how marine inputs from shore-cast seaweeds and river otter activity affect island biogeography. I’m interested in how these nutrients from the sea affect patterns in species diversity and food webs of island organisms including plants, bugs, and birds. My field research takes place on Haíɫzaqv and Wuikinuxv territory on the central coast of BC.

I am a PhD candidate and my doctoral thesis explores the change in abundance, diversity, and productivity of wild salmon populations and their habitats over the last century, and investigates how humans may have compromised the resilience of salmon to future global change.

I am a Master’s student researching long-term variation in the marine ecosystem dynamics of Pacific salmon. With access to a fisheries-collected archive of salmon scales (some dating back to 1913) and the use of modern laboratory techniques such as stable isotope analysis, I’m exploring how large-scale climate events and environmental factors influence Pacific salmon foraging patterns in the marine phase of their life-history.

I am a Master’s student co-supervised by Dr. John Reynolds and Dr. Brian Starzomski. I work with the BC Parks iNaturalist Project to collect data on spatial and observer biases of the popular citizen science platform iNaturalist across British Columbia. My research is investigating the limitations of the iNaturalist dataset and how it can be effectively used by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. I am an avid naturalist and love finding critters of all sizes!
